Simon Balint is a Troy native who returned to the city in 2012 after an international career in technology and manufacturing, and began restoring historic buildings throughout the downtown area. Simon owns and manages a real estate investment firm, an historic renovation contracting company, as well as a handcrafted wooden boatworks that he launched in 2020. Simon is excited to be a part of the ongoing revitalization of Troy and supports the city’s diverse community through philanthropic and volunteer activities. In his free time, he enjoys anything related to boats and has sailed over 10,000 miles, including crossing the Atlantic from Rhode Island to Europe on a 40 foot sloop.
Simon grew up on a small farm in rural Rensselaer County. At age 17 he completed a solo, year-long around the world backpacking trip. He graduated magna cum laude from Brown University and received his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Simon has spent 10 years living, working and studying overseas and has travelled to 45 countries with extensive stays in the UK, The Netherlands, Australia and Japan. Simon’s previous work experience included technology commercialization, new venture creation, international business development, and technology sales. He was a co-owner and Chief Administrative Officer of a manufacturing firm that produced technology-based simulation and training tools for first responders worldwide. His favorite job, however, was being a delivery boy for Jimmy’s Pizzeria in Lansingburgh when he was 16.
